Grounding Exercise
by Jack Arthur Brown
Loathing in stagnation
I must take a trip to clear my mind
Walking around these woods
To get in touch with the natural world
Planting one foot in front of the other
Where others have stepped
Careful not to suffocate the sprouting seeds
To put myself in the shoes
of those who walked before me
To live freely is to deeply inhale the air that breathes life into us all
The good
The bad
Alongside the smoke and pollution that lies in between
This sense of understanding comes only in the resolution of each chapter
as the tide of my own mortality rises
my worries waiver when the last page is turned
All this time I thought I wanted this chapter to end
Existing in moments passing
Holding on to fleeting feelings
I will reminisce about this when it is too late
Revisiting the book bound by the hands I was blessed with
